Murg

A stroll through a chestnut forest is not only possible in the Ticino but also in Murg on the Walensee lake. Figs and grapes also flourish in the damp, mild climate. The out-of-the-way Murgtal valley with its three little lakes is a scenic gem.

Murg, on the southern shores of the Walensee lake, lies on a sizeable delta formed in the lake by the Murgbach river. It belongs to the municipality of Quarten. This is mainly known thanks to tourism and parts of the nearby Flumserberg skiing and hiking region also belong to Quarten.

Murg is known for its unusual incidence of sweet chestnut trees. The mild, damp and warm Walensee climate (warmth from the lake and the Föhn wind) and acidic soil foster the growth of these trees, not usually found north of the Alps. The third largest occurrence of chestnut trees in Switzerland is found here after the Ticino and Bergell! A theme trail provides information on this special feature. Figs and grapes also grow in Murg.

hope it helps u
