SAN- sino-atrial node

San is a tissue which is present in the right upper corner of the right atrium.It is a specialised part of nodal tissue.
It works in.close xontact with AVN-atrio-ventricular nodes.

FUNCTION:
It is autoexcitable i.e it can create action potentials without any external stimuli.SAN can generate a action potential of about 70-75 per minute.

SAN is responsible for initiating and maintainance of rythemic contraction of the heart. Hence our heart beats 70-75 times per minute.

SAN is also called as the “PACEMAKER” since it is autoexcitable and can generate maximum action potential
