The epidermis is the relatively thin, tough, outer layer of the skin. Most of the cells in the epidermis are keratinocytes.

It's the very first layer of your skin. The skin you can touch and see. Underneath is the dermis. It's thicker than the epidermis and then you have the subcutaneous fat under that.
