An image is formed in the human eye when light passes through the pupil. And then we saw a picture through retina.

Behind the cornea, there  is a dark structure called iris with a small opening called the pupil.

A focused two dimensional image of the visual world is created by optic of the eye on the retina. To create a visual perception to the brain the retina translates image into electrical neural impulses.

Retina is the inner most and light sensitive layer of eye. Simply we can say that when light rays enter a sharp focusing point on the retina, it acts as a film on the camera that receives image and passess it to the cornea.
