It is necessary to do that in order to avoid the mixing of biodegradable and non biodegradable waste as the biodegradable waste does not cause any harm on earth so it can be thrown on the land but the non biodegradable waste pollute the environment and affect the life forms in the surrounding's and hence should be treated before it's disposal. The segregation also makes the job easier for the rag pickers.
