Nucleus Pulposus. The nucleus pulposus (NP) is a rounded regionlocated within the center of the IVD (see Fig. 2-12). The NP is thickest from superior to inferior in the lumbar region, followed in thickness by the cervical region; it is the thinnest in the thoracic region.
