When the tip of a pedicel swells up and becomes a small pad, it is known as receptacle or thalamus. It is a part from which all the floral parts are attached. Depending upon the plant species, it may be dom-shaped , concave or flat.In most cases the thalamus is very short, but in some cases it becomes elongated.
