Mira Behn was a follower of Mahatma Gandhi. She was greatly impressed by the ideals, philosophy and ways of working of Gandhiji. Mira Behn worked against caste discrimination, untouchability, in favour of women equality and rights. She emphasized the development of agriculture, cottage, industries and education. Mira Behn worked for protection of environment. She desired to protect environment along with economic development. She opposed blindly use of modem science and technology. Mira Behn wrote in 1949, by "science and machinery he (mankind) may get huge returns for a time, but ultimately will come desolation. We have got to study Nature's balance, and develop our lives within her laws, if we are to survive as a physically healthy and morally decent species." .

Well, According to me Mira Behn was right her in view.

As we Know that she was Gandhian and Mahatma Gandhi wanted a economic development from bottom to top level i.e. starting from village level, But after his demise, Nehru's Approach was from Top to bottom type of development.

And this Second Five year plan did not consider the threats to our mother nature, as building industries leads to number of impacts on the environment, including air emissions (CO, SOx, NOx, PM2), wastewater contaminants, hazardous wastes, and solid wastes. The major environmental impacts from integrated steel mills are from coking and iron-making.

Also Building Dams will lead to the flooding of surrounding habitat around dams kills trees and other plant life that then decomposes and releases large amounts of carbon into the atmosphere. Because the river is no longer flowing freely, the water becomes stagnant and the bottom of the reservoir becomes becomes depleted of oxygen.

So in Modern World we need to keep development in align with environment.
