The Northern Plain. The Northern Plain was formed by the deposits brought in by the three major rivers and their tributaries. Alluvium was deposited at the foot–hills of the Himalayas for millions of years. These deposits are now the fertile Northern Plains.

"The Great northern plains are forged by alluvial sublimates by three major rivers such as Indus, Brahmaputra and Ganga.

The sublimates of alluvial soil are present in the lower slope of Himalayas for over millions of years to form the great northern plains. The alluvial soil is formed by silt or mud or clay particles which retain water particles for long time. Hence the area has rich water source and this soil mainly used for agriculture purposes.

The great northern plain is divided into Indus plain, Ganga plain and Brahmaputra plain. The great northern plain is densely populated due to the presence of water the soil is very fertile and suitable for the agriculture.
