here

the order of solubility of compounds in water is

Acetone>acetaldehyde>formaldehyde>Benzaldehyde

let us understand first that why, acetone is most soluble..

we know, that polar compounds are more soluble in water as comparison to non-polar...

in these compounds, acetone is most polar compound...

2)Concept of hydrogen bond-In acetone, oxygen have two lone pair, which, helps in making a weak hydrogen bond, with the molecules of water....

other compounds(mentioned) cannot formed hydrogen bond...

ii) and iii) compound cannot form hydrogen bodn, bcoz, they belongs from aldehyde group

from these two points we can say that acetone is most soluble...

Now let's compare acetaldehyde and formadehyde

1) both are from aldehyde group.....

2) they are polar, but do not form hydrogen bond(aldehydes never form H-bond)

3)It shows that, solubility im water is totally dependent on vanderwall force of attraction....

4) we know, Vanderwall force of attraction is directly proptional to, molecular mass

since acetaldehyde had more molecular mass than, formaldehyde,so,in terms of solubility

acetaldehyde>formaldehyde

why Benzaldehyde is at the last position?

As Benzaldehyde is in the form of ring so,,it is non-polar compound, while other 3 compounds are polar,so,it is less soluble then the other.....

so,from this analysis,we can say

order of solubility is

1)>3)>2)>4)

Note: there might be one more confusion that oxygen have ,2 lone pair in Benzaldehyde,so it can form hydrogen bond, with water molecules and can be more soluble, but it should be noted that the lone, pair of oxyegen in Bezaldehyde is used in conjugation, Making it less available for hydrogen bonding......

i hope this information will help u to clear ur concept....

keep asking and be brainly ✌️
