Mammals are the vertebrates (animals which have backbone or spinal cord) that feed their young on mother's milk.

There are more than 4,000 different species of mammals.

Here are SOME CHARACTERISTICS OF MAMMALS:

1.  They feed them on the mother's milk. Mammals have to eat a lot of food to maintain their body's temperature.

2. They give birth to young one; not lay Eggs.

Some Exceptions are there like Platypus*
*don't give birth to young ones..

3. They are Warm-blooded

4. Mammals have a larger, more well-developed brain than do other animals in the Hierarchy.
