The Himalayas, the Gangetic plains of the north, and the Deccan or the Peninsular Plateau are the three physiographic units that the Indian subcontinent is divided in.

Following are the ways in which these three physiographic units of India are complimentary to each other in resources:

  • The water resources provided by the Himalayas are identical to that of the water resources provided by the western ghats in the Deccan plateau.
  • The only difference between these two is that the rivers flowing from Himalayas are perennial and the rivers flowing out of western ghats are seasonal.
  • The fertility of the Gangetic plains of the north is resembled by the black basaltic Soil found in the Deccan plateau.
  • The vegetation found in the northern Gangetic plains and the Peninsular Plateau is almost identical.
