The monsoon period is the rain fall time for the south asian countries. India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Srilanka, and Maldives all have rains at this time. The rain causing winds starting from Australia travel all the way cross the equator, change direction to South west monsoon winds and reach the main land of the subcontinent.
the two branches- There the winds are divided into two branches. 1- the western ghat or konkan branch, which is responsible for the rain over the peninsular section; 2- Bay of Bengal branch, which travels uninterrupted by the peninsula right up to Bengal Bangladesh and north east India. There the rain is caused by this branch.
Then during mid phase of the rainy season both meet as purwai winds and enter gangetic plains and from there on proceed right up to Pakistan.
Note: At the end of the monsoon season when southern hemisphere develops Summer conditions the very same
winds take about turn. They trace back their courses and meet at maldive lakshadweep area and cross the equator change Direction and proceed to Australia. This is at this time called Retreating monsoon.
Conventionally the two branches are 1- Konkan branch and 2- Bay of Bengal branch.
