"Draught prone areas are geographically defined as areas where the probability of a drought year is more than 20% - this formula basically accounts for arid, semi-arid and sub- humid areas.
There various areas and sects on the physical geography of India that can be marked as draught prone. To count:
• Coast of Saurashtra in Gujarat to Kanpur in UP to Jalandhar in Punjab.
• Sahyadri in Maharashtra and majorly region of Western Ghats stretching and extending towards Tumkur in Karnatka followed by Chitoor in Andhra Pradesh.
• There are some other widely scattered regions which are drought prone. Coimbatore and some other regions of Tamil Nadu, Jhansi, Mirzapur, Banda and some other areas of Uttar Pradesh.
• Major areas of Purulia in West Bengal. Kalahandi in Orissa and some areas of Jharkhand.
• Some other areas to count on are Marathawad area of Maharashtra, North Karnatka, Specifically Bikaner and Jaisalmer of Rajasthan, Kutch region of Gujrat, Mahabubnagar of Andhra Pradesh, Balasore of Orissa.
