The Indian National Congress was founded by a former British civil servant Alan Octavian Hume on 28th Decemeber 1885.He observed that a sense of hopelessness amongst the Indians which gave rise to outbursts in form of small crimes. He felt that this could turn into a national revolt. He felt that a union would help in communicating the grievances of the Indians to the British. In order to make the voices of the Indians heard, he decided to start the INC whose first session was held at Poona.

A.O Hume was and British officer who helped in the formation of Indian National Congress. After seeing most of the Indian public against British, A.O Hume suggested the British to develop an organisation and name it as " the Indian National Congress" which was agreed by the Britishers.
