A Base can neutralise an Acid.

  • To neutralise a strong acid we need a strong base. (Ex: HCl can be neutralised using NaOH).
  • To neutralise a weak acid we need a weak base. (Ex: CH3COOH can be neutralised using NH4OH).

If we neutralise a weak acid using a strong base, it won't get completely neutralised and vice versa.
