In central nervous system, there are small cells that transmit signals from brain to rest of the body and vice versa, these small excitable cells are called   Neurons or Nerve cells.

Neurons that transmit signals from brain to the body are called Sensory neurons. Neurons which take back message from muscles to the brain are called Motor neurons.
