Answer:

From the Linnaean beginning, the principal criterion for the classification of flowering plants was the flower itself — its structure, number of parts, etc. This was, for the most part, a pretty accurate way of classifying flowering plants.

The classification is done on the basis of:

Differentiation

Presence or absence of vascular tissues

 Production of seed

Covering of seed

No. of cotyledons

Criteria used for the classification of plants:

Thallophyta: Plant body without roots, leaves.   Undifferentiated . These are Mainly aquatic .These are Commonly called as algae.

Examples: Chara, Spirogyra, Ulothrix

Bryophyta: These are  Differentiated into stem and leaf like structure. The Vascular tissues are absent .These are Called as amphibians of plant kingdom as they Lives in marshy and need water for reproduction. In Bryophyta we observe Alternation of generation (metagenesis).

Example: Riccia, Funaria, MArchantia

Petridophyta:  These are Well differentiated . Vascular tissues  are present.Seeds are absent.

Example: Fern

Gymnosperm : Differentiated Vascular tissues .In this ,Seeds are naked. These are  Generally Perennial, Evergreen
