Rice or paddy is called as global grain.

These are the following reasons why Rice is called as Global grain.

1.Rice is the prime,most essential and important staple food crop.

2.It was cultivated in the late period (mesolithic,harappan) also.

3.It is grown as Kharif (rainy) or Rabi (winter) crop also.

4.It is grown overall -from Rajasthan to Arunachal pradesh and from Kerala to Jammu and Kashmir.

5.It also grown in the cooler temperature regions of China,Japan and Australia.

6.Of all the countries in the world India has the largest area of land for rice cultivation.

Rice (Oryza sativa) is regarded as global grain. It is cultivated in almost all parts of the world. It is the staple food of many countries including India. It is produced in both kharif and rabi season and in cooler temperatures also. Many communities eat rice in almost all meals of the day. It has many varieties also either ling grain or small grain. Eg. Basmati, Joha etc. It is either cooked, steamed or fried etc.
