Given : y > −15

To Find : Which describes the solution of the inequality y > −15

A. solid vertical line through (0, −15) with shading to left of line

B. dashed vertical line through (0, −15) with shading to left of line

C. solid horizontal line through (0, −15) with shading below line

D. dashed horizontal line through (0, −15) with shading above line

Solution:

y > −15

Change to equality

y = -15

This is a  line parallel to x axis  and  15 unit below origin

Check origin

( 0, 0)

0  > - 15

Hence Origin is the part of the solution

origin lies above y = -15

Solution lies above y = - 15

as y > - 15

Hence y = - 15 is not a part of solution

so line y = - 15  should be dotted ( dashed)

Hence correct answer is  dashed horizontal line through (0, −15) with shading above line

option D)
