The pteriodophytes group has long fossil history. These pteriodophytes flourished well during Mississipian, Pensylvanian and Devonian periods of the late paleozoic age.

The pterdophyte is a "vascular plant" which reproduces using the spores. They don't produce any flower and seeds. They are referred as cryptogams which means their reproduction is hidden. Some of the examples includes  horsetails, ferns and the lycophytes.
