9x - 3(x+8) = 9x -3x -24 = 6x-24

So yes you are correct.

9x - 3(x+8) = 9x - 3x - 24  = 6x - 24  
if the RHS is also  6x - 24  then the equation will be true for any value of x and so it is valid  for   x ∈ R.  so there are infinite number of solutions.
