well, there are two main factors affecting the daytime on the earth one is tilt of the earth axis while the other is latitude of the observer.
We know that earth moves around the sun .When the imaginary axis of earth does not lie straight up and down and tilted a degree of 23.5 then it's makes the day time shorter which happen in the winter . And when the earth moves it and northern half of the earth goes towards the sun it make the day longer which actually happen in the summer.While in winter the earth tilt away from the sun and the whole process reverse as the result the day becomes shorter while in the season like spring and fall the tilt remain somewhere between so the result is same day and night time during these times.
