Indian mathematicians, such as Brahmagupta (ad 598–670) and Bhaskara II (ad 1114–1185), developed nonsymbolic, yet very precise, procedures for solving first- and second-degree equations and equations with more than one variable. But Indian mathematician Bhāskara had already discovered many of Leibniz's ideas over 500 years earlier. Bhāskara, also made major contributions to algebra, arithmetic, geometry and trigonometry. Al-Khwārizmī, in full Muḥammad ibn Mūsā al-Khwārizmī, (born c. 780 —died c. 850), Muslim mathematician and astronomer whose major works introduced Hindu-Arabic numerals and the concepts of algebra into European mathematics.
