Which formula is correct for carbon monoxide CO or CO2 and give reason for it

CO is the coorect option because carbon "dioxide" means two oxides i.e. oxygen atoms.... whereas monoxide means one oxygen atoms

CO is correct. CO2 is carbon dioxide.

Mono,di is latin prefixes used for 1 and 2 respectively. As there us only 1 oxygen in CO. So it is carbon monoxide.
