A thermal power station is a power station through which heat energy generated by the fuels is converted into electrical energy through rotation of turbines. Problems associated with this type of power generation are-:

  • Efficiency is very low (20 to 35%).
  • It pollutes the environment as good quality of coals are rarely found in India.
  • Cost of operation is very high.
