The functional group that is present in both of the following compounds is:

Ketone group

- In both of the following compound, there is a ketone group present at the 2nd position from left.

- In compound (1) there is a bromine and a carboxylic acid group apart from ketone.

- In compound (2), there is another ketone group and an alcohol also.

- So, all other functional groups are different.

The functional group present in both the compounds is carboxyl group

Explanation:

  • Both the compounds have a double-bonded oxgen atom and a single-bonded hydroxyl group.
  • Carboxyl groups are functional groups with a carbon atom double-bonded to an oxygen atom and single bonded to a hydroxyl group.
  • The molecular formula is COOH.

So both the compounds contain the functional group of carboxylic acids.
