Simple, During photosynthesis trees need Carbon dioxide to prepare their own food and releases out Oxygen . this process usually happens during day times as they need sunlight too to prepare their food as it is only available during day times.

But, during respiration it needs Oxygen to respire well and leaves out Photosynthesis .This process usually happens during night times .
