When HCl gas will react with Zinc Dust, simple displacement reaction will occur as per activity series.
As zinc is more active than H it will simply displace H from HCl and will give Zinc chloride and Hydrogen gas.
if you will perform it in a closed test tube having just one open small whole(created by cork and glass pipe) then you can test it is hydrogen by putting a burning match stick near it to hear the pop sound.
Reaction is in the pic.
Thanks.

Hydrogen gas will produce .
HCl {acid} + Zinc{metal} = Zncl↓2{salt} +H↓2{gas}.This reaction is displacement reaction because reactive Zinc will displace hydrogen and form given product.Hope this ans. is helpful.
