The group which is being called the buffer group of the periodic table is:

The group containing the noble gases, i.e the Group 18 or Group Zero is placed between the highly reactive metal group, the most electropositive group (Group 1) and the highlt reactive non-metal group, the most electronegative group (Group 17).

As they are placed in between the two groups of contrasting character, this group (Zero) is called buffer group.

So, option (d) is correct.
