Cl- is bigger in size....

as in Cl- one electron is gained hence the force if attraction from from nucleus becomes weaker

and force of repulsion between the electrons become more

hence the atomic radii increases

hope this helped u

The size of Cl⁻ is bigger than Cl.

Explanation:

  • The electronic configuration of chloride is Cl: [Ne] 3s² 3p⁵
  • The number of electrons in chloride is 17 electrons.
  • The electronic configuration of negative chloride ion is Cl: [Ne] 3s² 3p⁶
  • The number of electrons in chloride is 18 electrons.
  • The nucleus cannot hold 18 electrons as tightly as 17 electrons. Thus, the attraction of nucleus becomes weaker.
  • There is repulsive force between electrons.
  • It makes the radius of Cl⁻ bigger than Cl.
