In the last decade new developments in nozzle spray technology has improved spray deposition while reducing driftable fines. The new generation of spray tips has made hooded sprays almost obsolete. Still there are two types of spray protection devices being used today.

Foliar spray is one the type of application in which herbicide is diluted with water or diesel at a specific rate.
Blanket spray, directed spray, protected spray and spot treatment are the methods of Foliar application.
The chemicals like paraquat-diquat, 2,4-D or dicholorophenoxyacetic acid and MCPA are the herbicide that are applied by protective hood method.
