INS Sumitra became the first Indian Naval warship to enter the port of Sabang in Indonesia on 11 July, 2018.

The Indonesian port of Sabang is located strategically at the mouth of the Strait of Malacca. INS Sumitra received a very warm welcome from the Indonesian Navy and Airforce. This first-ever visit by an Indian Naval warship to the port, follows the Indian Prime Minster, Mr. Narendra Modi’s visit to Jakarta in May 2018.

Prime Minister Modi and Indonesian President Joko Widodo, had announced a joint task force for port infrastructure near the port of Sabang.

INS Sumitra, the presidential yatch of India became the first ship to enter the Sabang port of Indonesia.

The 105 metre long vessel was inducted into the Indian navy on September 4, 2014.


It was commanded by CDR Rajesh Rana along with 17 other navy officers which it reached Sabang port in Indonesia.
