Active process insipiration -
It is a active process which happens when
chest cavity becomes large due to contractions of muscles.

Passive process expiration-
It is a passive process which happens during
relaxation of the diaphragm muscle .

(Both above process
diaphragm is the most important muscle)

First let's know what do we mean by active process in this context.

Active process refers to contraction of the muscles present in diaphragm.Due to this air is taken in to balance out the pressure inside the body to the pressure outside the body.

Passive process is simply relaxation of muscles present in diaphragm .Due to this air is thrown out of the body to balance out excess pressure inside the body to the pressure outside.

So intake of air is by muscular contraction is Inspiration, it is an active process while throwing out of air by muscular relaxation is Expiration , it is passive process.

Hope This Helps You!
