Answer:

MATH is more important than physics just because it is more fundamental. One new mathematical idea may be used in physics, chemistry, biology, economy, history, geography, music, literature, and in every field of knowledge.

Math is also more deep. For example, if parallel universes exist, then each one of them may have unique physical laws (for example, f=m.a^3), but the laws of arithmetic and all the pure mathematics will still be correct. A proven theorem is an eternal truth forever, but, unfortunatelly, we still can't say for sure if a physical model is.

"The nineteenth-century mathematician Hermann Hankel said it best :

In most sciences one generation tears down what another has built, and what one has established another undoes. In mathematics alone each generation adds a new story to the old structure.

In this sense, as we examine the timeless mathematics of great mathematicians, we come to understand Oliver Heaviside's wonderfully apt observation: "Logic can be patient, for it is eternal."
