An atom is greater in size than a cation.
A cation is formed by the loss of electrons but in the formation of cation proton remains the same. Hence, in a cation protons are more in number than the electrons. Hence, electrons get attracted towards the nucleus because of overcoming attraction by protons present in nucleus. Therefore, the size of cation decreases as compared to an atom.
