The term dehydrohalogenation means the removal of hydrogen and a halogen group. It would be more precise if we write it as beta- dehydrohalogenation because the hydrogen gets removed from the beta carbon(which is the carbon atom next to the carbon to which the halogen is attached). it only takes place in alkyl halides. The reagent used is alcoholic KOH./﹋\_
