For fires involving electrical equipment and inflammable material co2 is considered as the best extinguisher. Being heavier than oxygen it covers fire like a blanket ,cools it down and brings down the temperature of the fuel . Oxygen supply is also cut off by it. Thus carbon dioxide helps in controlling fires.
