Answer:

Authorities have started installation of colour coded dustbins in commercial areas of the summer capital to facilitate segregation of waste at source.

Around 200 colour coded dustbins have been installed at Lal Chowk, Hari Singh High Street, Boulevard , Dalgate, Karan Nagar and other shopping markets of Down Town area.

“Each commercial location will have two coloured bins for waste segregation. While one bin will be used for bio-degradable waste, the other one would be for recyclable waste,” said chief sanitation officer of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Muhammad Akbar Sofi.

The installed bins installed are green and blue. While the green bin will be used for bio-degradable waste such as vegetable peel, fruits, household kitchen waste, the blue ones will be used to dump metals, glass, rags, rubber, containers and other non-degradable items.

SMC installed around 200 bins at different locations in municipal limits.
