In plants, starch is considered as the internal energy reserve.
In animals, starch is not the energy reserve rather they are composed of glycogen.
As compared to starch, glycogen has shorter strands which ensure easy metabolism and breakdown into the forms of energy. Due to the presence of starch in plants, metabolic rate is quite slow.
