What is the most awkward experienced you have encountered in an interview?

TL;DR - A company saw my entry-level resume and invited me for an interview. After I (eventually) got there and the interviewer showed up, I was told that they didn’t hire entry-level candidates, I lived too far away, and the commute wasn’t worth the (unspecified) amount they were paying. In short, I was the opposite of what they were looking for and if I still wanted an interview, I should call them back some other day.

Just after I finished college, I was going through lists of companies that were at job fairs at my school, and I came across one that, when I first talked to someone from there, sounded like it might have been really cool to work at (but she never got back to me about the position at the time, which may have been the first red flag). I went on their website and found that they didn’t list specific positions, but had an e-mail address to send your resume to. I sent them my resume, and a few days later, someone called and said they were doing interviews later that week, and that I should be there at 11:30.

On the day of the interview, after getting into the city and accidentally going 20 blocks too far on the bus (the position of the windows made it hard to see street signs), I called the company, apologized, and said that I was running a little late. They said it was fine and asked if I could be there before noon. I said I would try, but I didn’t think so, and they told me to come in at 2:30 (so it was established that they still wanted to see me). I eventually did get to the right area and found a place to eat lunch.

Fast forward to about 2:25. I walked up to the building (which was a bit run-down, but whatever) and went inside. The woman sitting at the desk told me to wait in a nearby conference room, and that someone would be in to see me shortly. About twenty minutes later, someone came in with a copy of my resume and said, “You don’t want to work here.” (“…What?”) He told me that they didn’t hire people without at least some experience. When I started telling him about my senior project, he said that that wasn’t really the same thing. He also said that for what they were paying (however much that was), it wouldn’t be worth the commute from where I lived. (I did the math, and the only way that’s true is if the pay was less than half of the minimum wage.)

Then he talked about how the company would be expanding soon, and that I should go home and think about it, and call him back the next week if I still wanted to work there. Strangely enough, I didn’t.

hope it is very helpful to you
