Agriculture is the most labour absorbing sector of the Indian economy.

In recent years, there has been a decline in dependence of population in agriculture. This decline is due to :

(i)  Disguised unemployment

(ii) Surplus labour in agriculture has moved to either the secondary or tertiary sector.
