The oldest oil refinery in India is situated in Digboi town of Tinsukia district in Assam. Digboi is situated in the North-Western part of the state of Assam. Digboi is popularly known as the Oil City of Assam. It is the place where the first oil well was drilled in Asia. The first refinery started operating here in the year 1901. Digboi is the world's oldest operating refinery, though the  production in very low today.
