Transcription produces RNA.

Explanation:

  • Transcription is defined as the biological process by which DNA is transcribed by RNA polymerase and results in the production of RNA.
  • Nascent mRNA or ‘pre mRNA’ is produced in the nucleus which is then transported into the cytoplasm where splicing takes place and results in the formation of mature mRNA.
  • This mRNA is then translated and produces protein. RNA is single stranded and is produced from double stranded DNA.
  • Transcription is the intermediate step in the process of protein production from DNA, also known as gene expression.
