Mass can neither be created nor be destroyed in a chemical reaction. But it can be converted into energy and the amount of energy produced can be measured by the formula-

E = mc²

where E stands for energy produced, m for the mass which had been changed into energy and c stands for speed of light in vacuum i. e. 1×10^8 m/s.
