The arrival of machine printing reduced the cost of books and it helped in producing multiple copies of the same book or work with great ease, all these changes led to an increase in the readership. Women also took interest in reading novels and magazines. Over a course of time, they began writing their own novels with the themes widow remarriage, women’s education, the nationalist movement and widowhood etc.
