Jallianwala Bagh massacre. On 13 April 1919 it took place. A large no of people gathered in the place. Some came to protest against the govt's new repressive measures. But most came to celebrate Baisakhi fair. As being away from the city, they were unaware of the martial law that had been imposed by the colonial govt. General Dyer entered the area, blocked the exits and opened up fire on the crowd. He was only thought of repressing the satyagrahis but thousands of common people died. He declared that 'the massacre was to produce a moral effect', to create in the minds of satyagrahis a feeling of terror and awe.
