Solution: Lithium, sodium and potassium though highly reactive alkali metal but are soft enough to cut with the knife.


However, no sooner it is cut; the shiny and silvery surface tarnishes while coming into the contact of oxygen and turns dull grey.


This is because a coat of metal oxide is formed on the surface.
