First of all it cannot be sodium as because sodium itself from a base with hydrogen so the actual answer will be Zn (zinc) which forms zinc chloride on reaction with an acid like hydrochloric acid and sodium zincate on reaction with a base like sodium hydroxide .

Zinc metal liberates hydrogen gas on reaction with both acids and bases.
- Metals that are more reactive than hydrogen in the reactivity series and displace hydrogen from their compound are considered to be more reactive than hydrogen.
- Amphoteric metals are those that have the ability to react with both acids and bases.
- Zinc (Zn) and aluminium (Al) are two examples of such metals (Al).
- Zinc can produce hydrogen gas when it reacts with a strong acid like HCl.
- Zinc also produces hydrogen when it reacts with the base NaOH.
