Metals like Gold(Aurum), Silver, Platinum, Rhodium etc are called noble metals.
These metals are called so because when looking at the reactivity series of metals, these metals are placed at last of the series which shows that they show negligible reaction to other elements.They are also oxidize less readily than other metals.They are resistant to corrosion or oxidation.
